“CHETEK WINTERFEST”

Another fascinating Day for the NSSR Super Series in Chetek, WI at the Chetek Winterfest Celebration and the fastest race track in all of Wisconsin on ice. Temperatures ranged from about 14 degrees F in the early morning to 20 degrees F in the afternoon with a mostly cross wind from the North North West ranging from 8 to 15 mph during the day. The 1000 feet of shaved ice tracks, 3700 feet shaved with shutdown, were aimed to the East. Great to have a nice sheet of black ice that was just over 2 feet thick! The racetrack was under partly cloudy to sunny skies all day. Racing action started just after 10AM and ended at 4:10 PM.

NSSR worked with Mr. Rob Licht, Winterfest Chairman, of the Chetek Chamber of Commerce to get the event set to coincide with the City’s local events with Winterfest. It was also great to have the Kids Pro Ice Series set up next to NSSR so that spectators could watch some great oval track racing with the future of the sport! Fans and Spectators had the thrill of also watching nearly 800 passes down the 1000 foot straightaway! The Bikini Run was run by the Chamber and raised over $31,000 for the Cure for Cancer and Cancer Research!

Great to see our Sponsors on the ice to support NSSR and its’ Racers which included Rick Tiede of Woodys, Chris and Nadine of Velocity Race Management, Kyle and Dana Baynes of Good Boy Vodka-Print Labs-Penntek Coatings, and John Wheelock and Frank Witlief of ProLine Performance. A huge thanks to Chris Riley of Super Sled Online for his attendance at this great event!

Racer entries included over 45 entries on the Pro track and 140 entries on the Radar Run track making a great number of entries at 185 hot rods. The Radar Run track continues to get more popular and competitive. The Chamber of Commerce had another great day for this event with over 1500 spectators on the ice! More important, the racers had a great time getting the sleds out and meeting up with fellow racers and spectators. The Radar Run track had some great hot rods including vintage sleds, many running near or above the 100 mph mark.

Our competitors continue to come from throughout the Midwest and included racers for North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. NSSR is an ISR Affiliated Speed Run organization where you can set World Records on the 1000 foot shaved ice competition. The ideal conditions for the Nine new World Records in the Stock and Pro Classes at this race event!

The Vintage Sleds were loving the smooth ice and cool temps! Kelly Renken peddled the 1984 El Tigre to a 106.860 MPH to set a new World Record in the Vintage Mod Stock 441 to 500 class. Shaina Kirkof dropped the hammer and took the oh so cool 1973 Sno Jet Thunder Jet in the Vintage Mod Stock 301 to 340 class to a new World Record of 89.780 MPH! Lauren Bygd ran her 1980 Yamaha Enticer to a new fast pace of 58.44 MPH for a new World Record in the Vintage H Stock Class. Scott Jaszcak ran his 1984 AC 500 liquid to a new World Record of 96.691 MPH! We love seeing all these Vintage machines that are over 40 years old running like the wind.

Well, here we go with Harvey Otremba the 77 year old racer who won’t give up going after the new World Record in Super Stock! His Birthday weekend must have brought him good luck as he flew down the ice on this 800cc Triple to set the new speed in this class at an amazing speed of 137.19 MPH! Congrats to you Harvey Otremba! Holly Bray brought the Ski Doo MXZ RS600 to a new World Record of 113.460 MPH bumping up her World Record from Last year.

Anthony Mini campaigned a Four Stroke Pro Stock Open Turbo Stock Chassis 2015 Artic Cat XF9000 setting the new mark at 181.745mph with a 178.713 mph backup and now claiming the fastest stock chassis sled in all competitions! Dana Baynes set a new World Record in the Pro Xtreme 55 class on her Baynes Motorsports/HRC Hot Rod of 196.249 MPH with a backup speed of 193.216 MPH! Wow and Wow! It was a great day for the Baynes Motorsports Team and all competitors on the Pro Track Competition!

Top Speed of the Day was in the Pro Xtreme 55 Class by Dana Baynes at an amazing 196.249 MPH mph on her Penntek/Hypersports Turbo Four Stroke HRC 4. This Hot Rod continues to run faster numbers as they turn up the tune and boost! Huge Congrats to Dana for setting the stage for all to compare to and remain the Fastest Lady on Speed Run Ice in the 1000 foot mark in the US and Canada!

All records require a run within 2% to back up their World Record run and over 1000 fans and race supporters were on hand to witness the racing throughout the day!

This NSSR Super Series event in Chetek was hosted by the Chetek Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with many of the local area businesses of the Chetek Area. Also, a big thanks to the City of Chetek, Chetek Fire Department, the Chetek Police Department, the Barron County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin DNR for their support and cooperation to make this event happen. I would also like to give a special thanks to all the local volunteers who volunteered!

Ron and Stacy Bray and the whole crew of NSSR want to thank all who participated, supported, and sponsored our 2026 event for just another great year of speed run action. We would like to thank all our sponsors who make these races possible!
