Iron Wood

To all of our racing teams, families, fans, volunteers and sponsors: we are deeply saddened to make the following announcement:
Over the past several months, the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners has solicited an engineering study of the buildings that make up the Gogebic County Fair Grounds. When the original study was released in late July, several deficiencies were noted in all of the old structures on the property including the grandstand. In an effort to save the summer county fair, a volunteer work bee of nearly 100 people did their best to address the issues. The fair was held in August under uncertain conclusions.
Since the fair ended, the county board has continued to address the fair grounds building issues and brought the engineering firm in to re-evaluate the structures after the volunteer work. Just this week, the results of the study were released to the county. Unfortunately, none of the news is good.
As a result, the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus has NOT been given permission to use the facility for the 2022-2023 race events. The Dec 31 – Jan 1 Pro Vintage race and the Jan 7-8 USSA Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus are being removed from their respective schedules. As an organization, we are heart broken.
The members of the County Board have pledged commitment and support for the facility moving forward. Seeing this support come to fruition will mean the races scheduled for 2023-2024 will be bigger and better than those of recent past. Your continued support is appreciated.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors for all of their past and future support. Here’s to the future.
